The National Agency on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture of the Republic of Armenia was established
by the initiative of the Ministry of Agriculture in the end of February 2005 and is inter-ministerial, thus includes representatives of:
Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Nature Protection, National Academy of Sciences and NGO.

The objective of the Agency is to address the goals of the Global Plan of Action. The Agency also plays the role of a coordinating body for the activities on Plant Genetic Resources in Armenia, and well as plays an active role in the elaboration of a National Strategy on PGR and issues related to the legislation on PGR and biodiversity.
The scientists of the PGR Unit established in 2001 in Armenia by the initiative of ICARDA, and the Ministry of Agriculture of Armenia are now the scientific consultants of the Agency.
