“Conservation, Evaluation and Utilization of Plant Genetic Resources from Central Asia and the Caucasus”
Funded by Australian Center for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) and implemented by
ICARDA.
ACIAR's mandate directs it to mobilize Australia's research capacity to help solve agricultural research problems of developing countries.
Project duration is from September 2001 to September 2004.
Plant Genetic Resources Units (PGR Unit) have been established in each country of CAC region to realize the project.

Improving Rural Livelihoods through Efficient On-Farm Water and Soil Fertility Management
ICARDA research team together with national scientists of Central Asian countries
(Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan)
after several technical meetings, supported by the CGIAR, initiated in 2000 a three-year
applied research project on soil and water management supported by Asian Development Bank, ADB (RETA 5866). The project addressed major on-farm soil and water management
constraints with the aim to increase agricultural production through
maintaining soil fertility, enhancing nutrient-use efficiency and improving the
productivity of water

Integrated Feed and Livestock Production Project
IFAD-funded Project on "Integrated Feed and Livestock Production in the Steppes of
Central Asia" was initiated in 1999 with a total of USD 1.5 M for a period of three years
(September 1999-September 2002). Four countries of Central Asia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan,
Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, are involved in the project, which include four themes:
socio-economics, range management, feed production and flock management. Research activities
are carried out in close collaboration with NARS of different research institutes in the region.
The goal of the project is to contribute to development of productive and sustainable small-ruminant
systems in CA, through the integration of range, livestock and crop production, with a view to
improving the incomes and welfare of smallholders and to conserving the natural resource base...>more
