UzRIPI was founded under the leadership of N.I.Vavilov in 1924 and nowadays it is
one of the greatest scientific institutions in Central Asia, where genepool of
agricultural plants is concentrated. |

- 1924: Department of Institute of Applied Botany, Genetics and Selection (nowadays VIR)
- 1927: Middle Asian Experimental Station of N.I. Vavilov All-Union
Research Institute of Plant Industry (VIR)
- 1979: Middle Asian Branch of VIR
- 1991: Renamed to Uzbek Research Institute of Plant Industry (UzRIPI)
- 1992: Andijan Experimental Station foundation (under UzRIPI)
- 1994: Surkhandarya Experimental Station (under UzRIPI)

- Collection, conservation and introduction of plant
genetic resources;
- Quarantine control of introduced material;
- Complex evaluation and transmission of valuable
features; providing material to breeding institutions;
collecting and introduction
To enrich plant genepool of the Institute annual
observation of Central Asian territory is realized in the course of Middle Asian
plant collection mission since 1965.
International plant collection mission are carried out as well.
Institute's world germplasm collection has
been replenished with both modern cultivars and
hybrids as well as with wild relatives of cultivated
plants.
Exchange of germplasm is carried out with scientific institutions and leading genepools
of the world.
quarantine control
To
prevent penetration of quarantine objects into the country phytopathologic and
entomological control initial study of main valuable features of 2-3 thousand of
introduced accessions of different agricultural crops is carried out annually.
Tested material is forwarded to laboratories of
plant resources of the Institute for subsequent research.
