ICARDA research team together with national scientists of Central Asian countries (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan) after several technical meetings, supported by the CGIAR, initiated in 2000 a three-year applied research project on soil and water management supported by Asian Development Bank, ADB (RETA 5866). Integrated Feed and Livestock Production Project
IFAD-funded Project on "Integrated Feed and Livestock Production in the Steppes of Central Asia" was initiated in 1999 with a total of USD 1.5 M for a period of three years (September 1999-September 2002). Four countries of Central Asia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, are involved in the project, which include four themes: socio-economics, range management, feed production and flock management. Regional Network of Wheat Variety Promotion and Seed Production
GTZ-CIMMYT project was initiated in 2000 in Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. The objective of the project is establishment of a regional network to support promotion of new wheat varieties and seed production in Central Asia with an emphasis on pilot mechanisms for fast and economically sustainable variety promotion and seed production. The project envisages implementation of three specific tasks: (i) support of the network structure, communication, regional consultations and exchange of experience as well as material support of breeding and basic seed production; (ii) testing of new wheat varieties, which so far were not present on the market of the countries participating in the project; (iii) the initial steps for re-establishment of the regional network of breeding and seed production. >more (in Russian)
